| Against | The language in the bill referencing "dangerous knife" may result n confusion and costly litigation in the future. There is no need for this legislation as any issues can be covered easily by local statutes. | May-08-2011 |
| Against | I visit Nevada every summer for recreation with a large group of outdoorsmen, and will be unable to do so any longer if this bill is passed. Please do not limit what we, as law-abiding citizens, are allowed to carry in the way of necessary tools. | May-06-2011 |

| Against | I travel to and through your state several times a year. it is already hard to provide for my own sfety in your state. the following are some issues that I have. There is no reason to add "dangerous knife" to NV statutes because there are already definitions for dangerous weapons in Nevada law. The legislature should only legislate against bad behavior not the victimless possession of common, everyday tools. Schools already have broad authority to regulate what does or does not come onto their campuses. Many rural school children carry a small pocket knife for everyday chores, should they really face criminal charges for this? A two inch bladed knife may easily fit on a key ring. Do we really want to criminalize that? This law is trying to add language that is not needed. Dangerous weapons are already covered. This bill is useless. Thank you. | Apr-13-2011 |
| Against | Inane restrictions on common tools. | Apr-12-2011 |
| Against | Inane, and "Any other deadly weapon" does not pass the smell test for remaining enforceable. Criminals will ignore this law as they ignore all others. There is no benefit to this, only a hassle for anyone intent on camping, returning to from a camping trip, or who stores supplies in their vehicle. There are too many genuinely important issues to be considered, drop this inane bill, DO not schedule a hearing on it. | Apr-12-2011 |

| Against | Unto the Good Members of the Nevada Legislature does a humble Lady of the realm send warm greetings. It is with fervent opposition do I send this missive against SB171, a bill that would hinder historical demonstrations at facilities. Frequently do the hard working educators in your fair lands contact re-enactors to come to classrooms, school grounds, assemblies, et al. and provide “living history” to those learning about chivalry, knights, princesses, and *all* things Medieval and Renaissance. We bring with us the common items of our period among them swords, katanas, rapiers, and knives. I have been at locations in the poorest parts of Washoe County where never in their lifetime would these children have had the opportunity to see a blade ornately etched, or felt the weight of a rapier in their hand. They can touch and hold the accoutrements of a knight, his shield, his helm, yet you would deny them the very instrument, a sword, that historically provided justice but showed mercy, defended honor but also taught humility. Can you imagine esteemed lords and ladies, the look upon a child’s face when a noble Knight stands before them, and speaks of honor, courage, and courtesy? I am blessed to have been there, when the little ones aspire to greatness because a bit of their imagination walked out of a lifeless 2-dimensional book and shook their hand. It is not only the sword I fight for this day, but would you also outlaw the Sgian Dubh from a Highlander’s apparel - The Scottish knife worn at the calf of the leg and tucked into the sock? A proud Scot, even when dancing would not want such a traditional item omitted from his dress at a demonstration. I am, indeed, hard pressed to find a violent incident in Nevada perpetrated by a kilted Highlander that would warrant SB171’s passage. Are Boy Scouts also required to leave their knives at home when attending scout activities on a campus? Their mission “to prepare young people to make ethical | Apr-07-2011 |

I am a responsible person who believes in my individual ability to act responsibly and take the consequences if myself or my children act irresponsibly. These laws only infringe on those who are law abiding while the lawless continue to behave the way they do. The problem is punishment of existing laws, not the additon of m | Mar-23-2011 |

| Against | I am person who recreates in Nevada. There is no reason to add "dangerous knife" to NV statutes because there are already definitions for dangerous weapons in Nevada law.The legislature should only legislate against bad behavior not the victimless possession of common, everyday tools. Thank you. | Feb-27-2011 |

| Against | Any object can be used as a weapon. Will they ban pencils in schools next? Since I was ten years old. I have carried a jackknife, like my grandfather. I've cut lots of twine, and whittled a few sticks in my time. | Feb-27-2011 |
| Against | Please vote "Against" SB171 I don't believe it will do a thing to make schools any safer. I am a frequent visitor to Nevada and present outdoor recreation seminars at schools. A law line this would have the unintended effect of making many law abiding citizens criminals. At the same time criminals could care less about violating a the law. I would urge you to spend your time on legislation that provides for stronger penalties for existing laws. Regulating knives makes little sense in this day and age. Th | Feb-27-2011 |
| Against | A knife is simply a tool until it is employed by a sick person as a weapon, just like a hammer, screwdriver, tire iron, or a set of keys. What is next, are you going to ban ball point pens in schools also? They can be employed as weapons also. The real issue is intent, not the mere possession of a tool. | Feb-27-2011 |
| Against | 1 - We have more than sufficient laws against bad behavior. There is no need to restrict possession of common, everyday tools such as knives. 2 – The Second Amendment protects possession and use of arms. Knives are among various tools classified as arms. | Feb-27-2011 |

| Against | I live in California and work in Las Vegas regularly. This bill alarms me because I use cuttin tools in my work and travel with them. It could criminalize my travel. | Feb-27-2011 |
| Against | I recreate two to three weeks per year in Nevada. Coming from Arizona, I always carry a knife in my pocket...which according to this bill, would mak my pocket knife illegal. Why are you trying to legislate something as silly as a "dangerous knife". Why not go after a person that uses a knife illegally and leave the rest of the law abiding citizens alonge? I'll take my vacation time to another state if that is what it means. Pass it a lose your tourist trade! | Feb-27-2011 |

| Against | This is a horrible idea that will only make criminals of law abiding people and will not do a single thing to reduce violence. A knife with a 2 inch blade is a small, practical knife that many of us carry. | Feb-26-2011 |

| Against | I object to 202.265 Section 1(i) "any other deadly weapon" as too vague. I object to 202.265 Section 7(b) defining a "dangerous knife." Most pocket knives of a utilitarian nature (Swiss Army, Boy Scout, etc) are 3-3.5". 2" is too restrictive. | Feb-23-2011 |
| Against | A pocket knife? Woukd it be against the law for me, as a contractor, to carry my tools onto a campus? Part of my required tools are knives and other sharp objects. This is crazy. | Feb-23-2011 |
| Against | I am wholly opposed to this poorly written bill. My 2.75" bladed pocketknife would subject me to arrest and conviction. Are scissors included? A motor vehicle? | Feb-23-2011 |

| Against | I carry a pocket knife when I am not allowed, by law, to carry a gun. I do so for personal protection. Now you want to take THAT right away from me too? what did 'I' do to have my rights taken away? I have served my country for 8 years and if you pass this bill, you are dishonoring me, my family, and the law abiding citizens I fight for. | Feb-22-2011 |

| Against | Do you fully understand how this bill could make thousands of common law abiding citizens criminals? Do you understand that the wording of this bill could affect someone who was just going to the local wal mart? You see in the bill you want to add 2 inch pocket knives to the list of dangerous weapons. You also want to add places that a school sponsored event is being held. A school sports teams bake sale at wal mart would prohibit hundreds to thousands of law abiding folks, and they would be breaking the | Feb-22-2011 |

| Against | Please vote against this bill. Nevada is more than just Clark County and includes huge swaths of rural communities filled with people who carry knives as tools. | Against | The Bill of Rights and the Constitution gives me the right to protect myself and my family from harm. It does not say that we do not have that right only where the government thinks we should and where it things we should not. We should all have the right of self protection at anytime and in any location as a law abiding Citizen. Dangerous weapons laws only take away law abiding Citizens rights, not criminals!!! | Against | This bill would normal law-abiding citizens who carry a clip on pocket knife as a tool, not as a "weapon" into criminals. there is no reason to make these people into criminals, all it will do is once again give "weapons" to the criminals. it will also just hurt any business that has a school sponsored event as many customers may avoid the business who normally carry their firearm, or a < 3" knife as a tool. | Feb-21-2011 |
| Against | I fail to see how making the possession of a swiss army knife a crime is going to help anyone. In fact, the wording in this bill would essentially make any janitor or maintenance staffer of any university or school an automatic criminal, since most of these people carry a leatherman-style multitool which has a blade over 2 inches. Again, I fail to see how making every maintenance worker or boy scout a criminal is going to help our state, especially now. Please vote against this legislation. | Feb-21-2011 |

| Against | This bill by adding any knife with a blade over 2" long will make me a criminal for picking up a child from school. I have carried a pocket knife with a blade over 2" for over 50 years and never harmed anyone else with it. This Item in this bill serves no useful purpose and needs to be eliminated. | Feb-21-2011 |

| Against | Another example of gov't getting it WRONG. Those who wrote this bill think they can make the world completly safe when in fact this law does the exact OPPOSITE; it leaves everyone in a school zone vulnerable and makes criminals out of otherwise law-abiding citizens. | Feb-21-2011 |

| Against | Please do not pass a bill that defines many pocket knives as "dangerous knives", and could make a criminal out of someone who randomly passes a school sanctioned car wash on private property. | Feb-21-2011 |
| Against | The dangerous knife definition is absolutely ridiculous. Thousands of people carry pocket knives and this bill would instantly make criminals out of them. Also adding "school sponsored events" addition may make a criminal out of a non-suspecting person carrying a knife through a Wal-Mart parking lot where a school-sponsored baking sale is taking place. Absolutely ridiculous! | Feb-21-2011 |
| Against | This bill is horribly vague and will be ruled unconstitutional. Please don't pass this bill. | Feb-21-2011 |
| Against | This bill needs to be defeated. It would make a criminal out of honest citizens. | Feb-21-2011 |
| Against | We can't be expected to not carry guns any time a babysitter or school sponsors an event somewhere. Gun free zones are only unarmed victim zones. 202.265 should be repealed, not expanded. This bill would make working on projects with tools at universities harder. As an engineering student, outside of class we used many tools on projects. | Feb-21-2011 |
| Against | This bill is an absolute step in the wrong direction. We should be expanding the ability of people to defend themselves, not impeding it. Criminals won't obey this law any more than they obey other laws. This will just make their targets at certain locations all the more easy to kill/attack/rape/maim. | Feb-21-2011 |
| Against | This is a horrible bill that restricts the possession of common everyday items in common everyday places. Don't make good guys into bad guys because they have a pocket knife in their pocket when picking their kid up from the bus stop. | Feb-21-2011 |
| Against | This bill not only makes law abiding citizens, those that carry a tool, sometimes a knife, criminals. The additional vague language about 'any other weapon' is also discomforting. This bill, regardless of it's intentions, is not well written, misconceived and a gateway to taking away our rights. | Feb-21-2011 |

| Against | I am against making an ordinary citizen into a criminal because of the "dangerous knife" clause. This could turn ANY public place into a place for an "activity sponsored by a private or public school" When business' learn they could loose customers due to this bill, they will quit sponsoring, or allowing, school functions to be held in their vicinity when possible. | Feb-21-2011 |
| Against | This bill lacks common sense. You are creating criminals from law abiding citizens. | Feb-21-2011 |
| Against | A pocket knife is a tool, not a weapon. When will you understand that making something illegal does not stop a criminal from doing it? All this law would accomplish would be to criminalize the normal daily actions of otherwise law-abiding citizens. A knife is an essential tool for many people, including some people who work in schools. | Feb-21-2011 |
| Against | Under this bill knives with just a 2 inch blade would be illegal. That's a pocketknife size! We don't need more dumb laws like this to make our state safer. Vote this bill down! | Feb-21-2011 |
| Against | Another nanny-state bill which this state doesn't need. | Feb-19-2011 |
| Against | Vote NO! The language: "Any other deadly weapon" is unconstitutionally vague! Will I be a criminal if I merely possess a pair scissors, a screwdriver, or my vehicle? All are equally deadly. The bill also prohibits knives with blades longer than 2". I've carried a pocket knife with a blade approx 2.75" for 40 years - if enacted, this bill will make me a criminal if I venture onto campus property. It is already unlawful to commit crime with a weapon. Don’t make the mere possession of common items a crime. | Feb-19-2011 |
| Against | Concealed permits should be sufficient to ensure carrying in all locations. If not tighten the rules for concealed carry permits. One Rule of all. Sort of like a Driver's liscense being valid in all 50 states. | Feb-18-2011 |
