For As a volunteer for 5 years at the NV Humane Society -I have learned to love the breeds that are discriminated against -they are wonderful, loving dogs. Please don't judge an animal by it's breed -there are already laws for dogs gone bad -they are mostly good. May-11-2013
Against May-06-2013
For Discriminating against particular breeds and labeling them as being somehow automatically vicious is wrong. In my experience dealing with many breeds over the course of six decades I have not found there to be a shred of accuracy to the theory that some breeds are more dangerous than others. Dog behavior is influenced by a number of factors, primarily environmental and training but in-breeding may also be a very important factor. All breeds can be trained to be service dogs and all breeds can bite you if improperly bred, poorly trained, or abused by humans. The most influential factors that can affect such results are driven by humans not dogs. Humans control the outcome, and the dog is the victim of mishandling and bad breeding practices not the cause. Discriminating against dog breeds is as incidious as discriminating against people on the basis of race, and by the application of virtually the same tortured logic. May-03-2013
For Please support AB110 - declaring an animal vicious - especially dogs, based on breed is really an injustice to the animal. You cannot paint anything with a broad brush such as that.... May-02-2013
For Please support this bill. A responsible dog owner should not be penalized for the acts of irresponsible dog owners who happen to have the same breed of dog. There is no breed that is inherently bad or dangerous. The fault for any bad canine behavior lies on the owner, and the owner alone should be held accountable. May-01-2013
For As a constituent, I urge you to support and cosponsor AB 110 to promote safe and humane communities. Everyone benefits from a safe society — both people and pets — and this bill would enhance public safety and also protect property rights. Communities should be protected against any dangerous dog, no matter the breed. In Nevada right now, any local government can ban or restrict any breed of dog, which does nothing to improve public safety. Indeed, 13 states have outlawed breed discrimination because it fails to enhance public safety and is extremely expensive to enforce. Studies done in countries with breed-discriminatory laws, such as the United Kingdom, Spain and Germany, found that these laws didn't reduce the number of dog bites or improve public safety. Based on these studies, and concerns about due process and property rights infringement, the American Bar Association, the National Animal Control Association, and the American Veterinary Medical Association don’t support breed discrimination. They support laws that go after the real problem, the behavior of the individual dog and the behavior of the reckless owner. Breed discrimination also interferes with property rights. In America, every citizen who follows the safety rules as a responsible dog owner should be allowed to own whatever breed of dog he or she chooses. It's that simple. I urge you to support AB 110. Thanks for your consideration of this important public safety and property rights measure. May-01-2013

For Rottwielers , Ect. are very good dogs. Discrimination of these types of dogs is wrong. Its all about the dog owner and how they treat and raise thier dogs to how they act. Chiwawa's bite more people than Rottwielers do every year on stats , so you cant discriminate against a breed or its size !!! Apr-25-2013
For Discriminating against a dogs breed or size is wrong. This is America and we should be able to own any dog we want. Apr-25-2013

For Do not want to discriminate a dog by its breed alone. Judge it and its owners for its acts alone not how it looks. Apr-24-2013
For I do not want, or support, breed discrimination in Nevada. Judge dogs and owners on their behavior NOT their breed. There are no bad dogs, just bad owners, just as no bad children just poorly raised children. Apr-24-2013
For Assuming that a dog's behavior is based on its breed is akin to assuming a person's behavior is based on their ethnicity. Neither is valid nor reasonable. Please support this bill. Thanks Doberman Rescue of Nevada Apr-23-2013
For This bill is extremely important in reversing an unfortunate legislative trend that has condemned many innocent dogs to death for resembling breeds thought to be dangerous. There is absolutely no evidence supporting the notion that certain breeds are inherently dangerous. Dogs behave badly when they have been trained to behave badly and this is true regardless of breed. The law should punish the deed and not the breed. I heartily support this bill to take progressive, evidence based approach to abolishing breed discrimination. Apr-18-2013

For Banning specific breeds only punishes those GOOD dog owners. It shouldn't be blamed on a dog when in actuality it is the owners lack of training/socialization. Mar-13-2013
For Discriminating against people of a certain race has been against the law for some time in the United States. Why should discrimination against specific dog breeds be any different? Like humans, dogs are a product of their environment and upbringing. Kindness, good care, sufficient food and copious amounts of attention promote happy lives for dogs. Conversely, brutality, training for fights, deprivation of food, water and kindness will make a placid dog, or human, into something very undesirable. This legislation addresses an important aspect of animal protection and should advance. The animals Man chooses to domesticate depend on us for their survival and well being. We should not fail them by inattentiveness and abuse. Mar-11-2013

Against dogs are a product of there environment. Teach a dog to love it will love. Teach a dog to kill it will kill. Discrimination comes in many forms, sex, color, breed. Teaching discrimination against animals is no better then discrimination against people. Where dose it stop? Teaching how to raise and maintain your dogs training is needed not banning the dog. If you want to ban something ban the owners who are unable to comply with the proper training not the dogs. Mar-07-2013

For deserves great attention, but requires a rise of people to stand against this abuse. For too long The Bully Breed has been abused and neglected, It's time that we rise together and stand up for our breed. In many states our breed is simply killed off and unable to ever find a home, or enjoy happiness. The Bullies, The American Pitbulls and American Staffordshire Terriers deserve the same rights as Poodles or Yorkies! No dog should be killed simply because of their breed or bloodline Mar-05-2013

For As a lifelong dog owner and fancier, it is obvious to the point of common sense that each dog, like each person, is an individual. I have had dogs whose breeds are notable for good, happy tempraments, suffer fevers and become mean. I have had "mean" breeds that my child could lay on, pull faces in for kisses, and they never once even thought of biting. Breeds do not determine ultimate temprament...environment and training, as well as circumstances (protection, cruelty, etc.) do. As more and more scientific and ancedotal evidence is accumulated, we must change the mindset that a "bad dog" is determined by breed. Any legislation that acknowledges this and reduces the likelihood of a dog being destroyed out of hand or prohibited is a positive step. Feb-27-2013

For Assemblyman Ohrenschall: Thank you for introducing "intelligent" animal legislation. To discriminate an entire breed for a few that are trained to be that way is obsurb. I foster hospice dogs for the Nevada Humane Society and my first was a Char-pei/Rottie that is a complete and total love and immediately bonded and fit into my fur kid family. Feb-26-2013

For Many sessions ago (1990's) we gathered forces with all the dog clubs, dog fanciers, dog trainers, pet owners, veterinarian etc, working on the same issue -breed specific laws and the definition of a vicious dog. We worked hard and diligently to craft legislation that would essentailly say it's not the breed its the individual dog and the responsibility of the owner to control, socialize and train the dog to be a safe member of human society. And here we are, 15 years later, discussing the same topic - preventing breed specific legislation. Breed specific legislation is a very slippery slope - one breed goes down, then another, then another - where does it stop? Is is dictinctly prejudicial against the pure bred dog. A dog is vicious by its action and the reason for its action. Was it provoked, was it defending it's puppies, was it defending its owner or a member of the owner's family - too many serious aspects to be taken lightly. I support a common sense bill against breed specific legislation, one that is sound in reason and doesn't expect a dog to read the law like a human. FYI: I have done rescue for 30 years, trained many dogs, and earned working titles a many German Shepherds. Feb-25-2013
For I agree that determining a dangerous dog should NOT ever be based on breed alone. I am the owner of a very large Pit Bull and an advocate for them. The people are the criminals. My dog is the best I have every owned and I've had many breeds and sizes. As well I volunteer at NHS working with many dogs there and the Pits and Staffordshire Terriers are my favorites. 100 years ago they were known as the Nanny dog as people wanted them for their kids. They are a wonderful breed of dog and should not be seperated out because some criminals use them for fighting. Stronger laws are needed for the people who run and attend dog fights. Feb-25-2013
For John Hambrick wrote legislation similar to AB110 last session. We supported that bill strongly and would like to see your bill incorporate that language. Saying that a dog is dangerous simply because it is a certain breed is like profiling humans due to their ethnicity or saying all gun owners are bad. I’ve seen more bad Cocker Spaniels and other small breeds than I have German Shepherds, Rottweillers, Dobermans, or Pit Bulls. It just isn’t fair to say all dogs of any certain breed are bad. I definitely support this type of legislation. Candy Roper, Bonanza Kennel Club Feb-25-2013
For We have for a long time now, rejected the notion that human behavior is race specific or genetic as it relates to national origin. To hold one responsible, there needs to be individual responsibility. So also with our pets. It is impossible to make broad generalizations of a specific breed regarding aggressive behavior. Each dog should be evaluated on its own behavior not on what it looks like. Anything less, is in contrast to our standards of fairness toward people as individuals. I support this legislation. David Fritsche, The German Shepherd Dog Club of Reno Feb-25-2013
For As a dog trainer who numerous clients that have dogs of VARIOUS breeds that have behaviour issues due to lack of basic knowledge and handler skills, I am STRONGLY IN SUPPORT of a bills that promotes a more intelligent approach to handling aggression issues instead of punishing an entire breed. For I have an American Pitbull Terrier and like many believed the myths regarding this breed. When I first saw this dog she stood out from all the others on how gentle, friendly and intelligent she was. I educated myself from this time and never looked back. Not only is she dog friendly she is a lover of people. I believe these dogs should be breed ambassadors and my dog holds her canine good citizen certification. I think to label any breed as vicious is deceiving and untrue. Feb-25-2013

For I volunteer at the Douglas County Animal Shelter. I have handled most of the "bully breeds" including pit bulls; rottweilers; mastiffs; bulldogs; dobermans; german shepards; dobermans and many others. None of these breeds is inherently vicious. Only mistreatment by humans makes a dog so. Please do not discriminate based on breed. It is just wrong. Thank you. Edward Ferranto - Gardnerville Feb-22-2013
For All serious, modern research shows that dog aggression is a result of training or treatment and NOT as a result of the dog's breed [http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/all-dogs-go-heaven/201206/understanding-aggression-in-dogs]. Responsible provisions for determining what constitutes an aggressive or dangerous dog are paramount for protecting the rights of dog owners who choose breeds that have been unfairly stereotyped as dangerous.
