| Against | America prides itself on being a fast pace culture and the ability with getting a quick bite via drive through is a part of that. 44% of the population visit a fast food stop once a week. Meaning the taxation 5 cents of over 500 cal food will add up to hundreds of dollars in a month. Where is this money going to? Will this money help build a program of what a nutritious meal is? Yes the obesity rate in the nation is high but should I really get taxed on the choices I make for a meal. How is passing this bill going to make people aware of the health concerns of the nation when they’ll be more concerned about why their inexpensive meal is costing them an extra quarter! This bill being passed is not going to change the way that people eat, it won’t make them aware that what they are eating is unhealthy. People make that choice already and shouldn’t be taxed on their food preferences just because they chose the choice of convenience. To some people a little short change isn’t much but what about the families who decide to treat their kids to some tacos, the person who wants a quick bite in between commuting to jobs, the homeless person who just made enough change to get a chicken wrap, it affects many people and the change will build up by the dollars out of their pockets. This bill is not helping the people it’s troublesome. The key to fast food is the accessibility of it; it is low-cost for a reason and versatile to suit all people when they chose to eat it, but when you add a tax to certain foods because it has a higher calorie count it adds guilt into the food choice. Saying this is more fattening so pay an extra 5 cents for it its food shaming! The bill reads on how to tax the retail of the food and its penalties for failed payment but does not prove to show how it will benefit the state of Nevada, where the money from taxation is going, and if it is really promoting good health. French cries, French cries, I personally won’t stand a taxation on my French fries. | May-01-2013 |
| Against | Don't like legislating diets. The poor can't often afford some healthier foods. Sometimes fast food is cheaper than some grocery food. Overall it isn't but where do we draw the line legislating diet? My diet would probably be a little better sometimes if I made more money. It's just the reality for a lot of people, especially during this minor depression still going on in Nevada. | Apr-26-2013 |

| Against | Fee is just another word for tax that sounds better.. Enough with wanting to tax American's to death. Many lower income people rely on fast food to eat at a fair price & enjoy an evening out with the family. Now you want to increase cost's on the poor? | Apr-03-2013 |

| Against | This is ridiculous, why not have the government open groceries stores and sell the appropriate foods in controlled quantities and do away with our freedom of choice. They should also close all fast food restaurants and pizza joints. TO THE CREATORS OF THIS BILL, WHAT ARE YOU, CRAZY!!! | Apr-03-2013 |

| Against | Realllly? Are you all this ignorant. Try finding out why the food isn't good any longer. It is how it is grown and the chemicals allowed in them during growth etc. I hope I get to meet those of you that actually believe in this Bill. I want to in person tell you some facts that obviously you are not aware of nor have any desire to research on your own. DO NOT pass this Bill. | Apr-02-2013 |

| Against | This idea is absurd. We pay farmers to grow non-nutritious food. We get fat from it. We are now thinking of taxing ourselves not to eat the food we are paying billions in taxes to have grown. So, in the end, we are taxing ourselves to grow food we are now planning to tax ourselves not to eat. | Against | Almost all food places serve items that exceed 500 calories. Why are you singling my business out for additional tax but not Olive Garden. Their food has way more calories. Grocery stores sell ready made food too. This is just wrong. It is about money not what is right. | Mar-04-2013 |

| Against | It is not the government's responsibility to be involved in the daily lives of individuals. If an individual wishes to eat themselves to death, as misguided a thought as this may be, then that is their choice. | Mar-04-2013 |
| Against | It is not the proper function nor any of government's business what or how much a private citizen eats or drinks unless some other existing law is violated. The state migh have such an interest in the case of prisoners or persons receiving care at taxpayer expense, but not otherwise. Keep the government's nose out of our private lives. | Mar-03-2013 |
| Against | Another idiotic bill from Munford. This guy is a joke. Every piece of legislation he backs is an embarrassment to Nevada. Clark County District 6, you should be ashamed you keep voting for this imbecile. | Mar-03-2013 |

| Against | I implore that all of you defeat this absurd bill that will impose a .05 cent fee on each fast food item that is greater than 500 calories in caloric count. The people of Nevada do not need a government that dictates what kinds of foods that they can or cannot eat without an nonsensical fee. The people of Nevada are capable of deciding what types of food are healthy and have the right to decide if they choose to have high caloric meals at fast food restaurants; not the government. I thank you in advance for your time and positive consideration to not pass this bill. | Feb-26-2013 |
| Against | This bill is inherently unfair, since it would not be applied to all food businesses. But even if it were applied across the board, I would still be against it because it is offensive and is using a tax to push a social agenda. | Feb-25-2013 |

| Against | This bill serves absolutely NO legitimate purpose other than to raise taxes in a sneaky way. We are not New York and do not need to be told we can only have a 16 ounce soda...or will have to pay a "fat tax" for ordering fast food. This money doesn't even seem to be earmarked for health programs. It will just, apparently, descend into the black hole of the general budget. Stop trying to legislate our personal choices. Thomas Jefferson is rolling over in his grave right now that we have come to this. | Feb-21-2013 |
| Against | This is crazy! STOP trying to rip off citizens! | Feb-21-2013 |
| Against | This is the most ridiculous bill that I have ever heard of. We are not the fast food police. | Feb-20-2013 |
| Against | Every time the legislature meets, we lose more of our liberty and our money. Which is it? An obesity epidemic, or starving children? Make up your minds, then mind your own business. Stop handing food stamps out to fat people, if you have a problem with what they are eating. Fast food can be a cheap treat, for those who cannot afford to go out for a steak dinner. I could eat a big steak with baked potato, butter, and sour cream (more fat and calories than a Big Mac extra value meal), and I don't hear anybody hollering about that. Stay out of our menus, food choices, restaurants, and kitchens. What we decide to eat is not the business of the Nevada State Legislature! I also notice that AB122 creates a new bureaucracy to manage it. How typical of government. | Feb-20-2013 |
| Against | Feb-19-2013 | |
| Against | This is clearly one more great example of the government getting in to everyone's knickers. This is a personal issue and not the role of any government. | Feb-19-2013 |
| Against | Taxation should not be used as a means to modify behavior. | Feb-18-2013 |
| Against | As if this is going to help the obesity problem? No, it is just going to make life harder on us...like prices on food haven't skyrocketed enough! I am so ashamed a Democrat is the one trying to punish the consumer. Tax the manufacturer if you MUST tax someone...push for them to alter their ingredients. Anyone can down an entire cheesecake in one day...are you going to fine them too? What about high cholesterol, should those people be fined? I thought this was a free country.....it is turning into a dictatorship. | Feb-18-2013 |
| Against | Cut Spending, Dammit! Quit trying to raise our taxes. Anyone voting for this will see his opponent receive a $1,000 donation from me during the next election! | Feb-18-2013 |
| Against | REALLY, with everything that needs to addressed in this state, THIS is what some genius wants to WASTE taxpayer money on? When did NEVADA become an extention of the Nanny State (komrad kalifornia)? | Feb-18-2013 |
| Against | This is ridiculous. You cannot force people to eat healthier by taxing high calorie foods. People need education and access to healthy food, not penalties for eating poorly. | Feb-18-2013 |
| Against | It is NOT the governments job to tell its citizens how much they are allowed to eat, force them to pay extra for doing so. Look around. There are some FATASS assemblymen, senators in the Nv Leg right this moment. Do I care? Hell no. Punnishing consumers for excersizing their RIGHTS to make choices, good OR bad, for themselves is WRONG! If we start this BS, then I DEMAND a $40 yearly fee should be imposed on ALL Democrats statewide because they lead to a much big govt, massive uncontrolled spending and it is a proven fact they are hazzardous to Democracy. Need proof? Look at the current situation in DC with Obama, Congress. Let US make choices for ourselves without our govt punnishing us for it. This IS Nevada, not Massachusetts or New York. Vote NO. | Feb-17-2013 |
| Against | Come on Assemlymen/women, this is absolutely insane. I don't even eat fast food, but I still think this is an unneeded tax. If you want to try to guide people's diets, why not start by requiring that genetically modified food be labeled? Corn that is modified with genes from viruses and contains pesticides from those modifications is no longer corn and should not be allowed to be labeled as such. I'm opposed to that idea as well, but at least then consumers could make educated CHOICES about what they consume. This bill doesn't help let the consumer make an educated choice, its just an attempt to regulate people's lives by trying to control money flows. The sponsors of this bill should go hide under a rock in New York City where guns, sodas, styrofoam, and pretty much everything else is banned or taxed in the name of making the city better... You'll fit in quite nicely with the other rats on Wall Street and at the NY Fed. | Feb-16-2013 |
| Against | This is utterly ridiculous, of no practcal use, and an infringement of our personal liberties. | Feb-16-2013 |
| Against | Have people lost their minds? This is an obscene attempt at raising taxes on the poor, disguised as social engineering. No way should this ever make it to the floor for a vote. | Feb-16-2013 |
| Against | Please, Please, Please stop trying to nannie us. This is a really dumb idea. | Feb-16-2013 |
| Against | “No man's life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session.” Mark Twain. I urge common sense to prevail in the Nevada legislature reference AB122. This is just what we don't need, another Tax proposal with no thought of the cost to small business operators. This will do nothing to stop people from overeating; it just feeds the general fund at the cost of small business in an economic climate we haven’t seen since 1929. This bill sounds like something the nut case New York City Mayor Bloomberg would come up with. Doesn’t anyone understand personal responsibility? If you eat too much and become obese it’s now the food provider’s fault? I don’t think so. We don’t need more taxes, we need physical responsibility. If you don’t have the money, don’t spend what you haven’t got. Thank you | Feb-16-2013 |
| Against | Let’s tell it like it is, ANOTHER TAX. Who is this going to affect most? The middle and low income, that’s who, the others spends more time setting down and being served. Five cent ($0.05) now then ten cents ($0.10). If you were interested in the obesity epidemic among children, then come up with a program to get them off the sofa playing mindless games or watching the television for hours. Be honest about where the money would go. Educate parents and get them involved in their children’s lives, OR maybe do your job AND GET OUT OF CONTROLLING our lives. Where in the constitution of this country or state are you given the right to punish people for their decisions on what to eat? | Feb-16-2013 |
| Against | We live in a free state lets keep it that way. | Feb-16-2013 |
| Against | This bill should not be passed for the very reason that individuals who choose to consume such food be penalized and citizens can make decisons on their own. This bill is bad for consumers and not be passed. | Feb-15-2013 |
| For | Would be tough to regulate. | Feb-15-2013 |
| Against | Read it and you'll see just how stupid it is. A 5 cent tax and MORE record keeping requirements on fast food businesses, for what? | Feb-15-2013 |
| Against | I have no problem with taxing McDonalds for selling high calorie items, but my concern is that you are also including small sole family owned businesses that might be selling something that is high calories but nutritious, such as enchiladas or fried chicken. These businesses will not be faced with the additional task of determining the calories of every food item they sell. It makes no sense- and why limit this to fast food businesses? Look at that nasty place in Harrah's "hash house a go-go" The crap they sell probably averages 1500 calories. | Feb-14-2013 |
