Against No one is going to make it illegal to fish or hunt in Nevada. So, this is really a bill to preserve trapping. Trappers are clearly worried that Nevadans will end the inhumane practice of fur trapping. Wildlife is a precious part of the Nevada outdoor experience. A few individuals should not be allowed to exploit what remains of Nevada's wildlife for personal profit. This bill is wrong for Nevada's future. Mar-28-2013

For I Hunt and Fish in Nevada and I would like to know that the investment that I have made in developing and supporting these activities through my life are persevere for my children and grandchildren and all future generations. As we become a more urbanized society many people forget where food comes from and assume it is not OK to kill animals to put meat on the table. I guess the pen raised antibiotic/hormone treated chickens that we buy at fast food outlets were never really alive or they never had to be killed before we munched on them. Too many urban people do not realize where food comes from and the are more than willing the limit my right to harvest my own meat. As urbanization expands anti hunting forces will or may become a majority and one of the main functions of government is to protect a minority from an unreasonable and unreasoning majority. We need this protection in the Nevada State Constitution!!!!! Mar-26-2013

For I was born and raised in Las Vegas. I taught myself to hunt and fish after reaching adulthood (with several mistakes along the way). I also for the first time started trapping this last season. While doing so, I have come to believe that being in the outdoors is an important way to keep ourselves physically and mentally healthy. I strongly believe that making hunting, trapping, and fishing a constitutional right is important to make sure that my children have the same opportunities as I have had. Mar-12-2013

For Please support this effort to protect our rights and heritage. Every year radical activists try to stop some form of hunting, fishing, or trapping. They use misleading information to fool the public and intimidate law abiding citizens, public employees, and elected officials. They have used media campaigns, petitions, law suits, demonstrations, unjust laws, and disrupted public meetings to impose their will. The protection of a Constitutional Amendment is needed to stop this abuse. Mar-08-2013

Against There is no need for a hunting rights bill. This is an attempt to stop public involvement in decisions regarding wildlife management. The wildlife belongs to all the people, not just sportsmen, despite their sense of entitlement. Mar-07-2013
Against Hunting and fishing are not in jeopardy, so this legislation is not needed. There are many ways to manage wildlife. Why would hunting be preferred? Preferred by who? Would it be preferred in every circumstance? Who decides what a traditional method is? Why is it okay to do something just because it has been done in the past? People evolve and wildlife agencies should evolve as well. Because something is tradition to someone does not make it their right to continue when talking about a resource owned by the public. Trapping should never be a right. Body gripping traps are cruel, especially to an animal trapped for 96 hours without food and water. The loss of our small predators through trapping can result in an increase in disease transmission to humans because of increasing rodents. This has occurred in other states. No one should have a right to use a public resource without continual re-evaluation. Mar-07-2013

Against This resolution grants inappropriate privileges to a small group of people intent on exploiting the public's wildlife for financial gain and personal aggrandizement. There is no right to drive a vehicle. There is no right to public services. There is no right to public benefits. There is no right to kill human beings. Why then should there be a right to kill the public's wildlife, as existing law states these creatures belong to the public-at-large? Man has invaded wildlife's habitat, not the other way around. Man has an unwavering duty to protect wildlife and co-exist with it, not single-mindedly pursue its death and destruction. If Man is the more evolved species, then it must behave with equanimity toward the species and resources it claims superiority to because of evolution. Killing wildlife is not a constructive activity that benefits our broader society; it is a destructive practice. It is not necessary for human survival, as it was in the 19th Century when our state was largely unpopulated and a virtual wilderness but for Native Americans, who respected all forms of wildlife. Wildlife species threatened by excessive killing have a similar survival instinct as humans. Some believe that structured, organized killing reduces a species' numbers; it has the opposite effect as the species, just like Man would react under similar circumstances. Self-preservation instincts prevail. Targeting predators for death only serves to increase their numbers and wrecks a complicated food chain of nature that all the species need for their survival. As the Beatles' song lyrics called for half a century ago, "Let It Be". That is, leave hunting, trapping and fishing for our wildlife subject to carefully controlled rules and regulations. Against Trapping is not in the same category as fishing and hunting (which are better regulated) in this state. Trapping is dangerous, clamping onto target and non-target animals with equal ease - many non-target companion pets have been injured. Traps are road-side bombs, which, without identification, leave the pet owner with costly vet bills and the trapper scot-free. Trapped, killed, skinned furs are SOLD - this is a BUSINESS- these are from animals which belong to everyone in the state and should NOT be for sale. This is on land which belongs to everyone in the state, not just the trapper/businessman. Why do we allow this commerce? Trapped animals die long, gruesome deaths. The laws presently on the books restricting trapping are not only totally inadequate, they are also not enforced. Wardens are few and far between, and trappers know it. They flaunt it. The Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners is, with few exceptions, composed of hunters, anglers and TRAPPERS. They usually vote with each other. The County Advisory Boards to Manage Wildlife (reporting directly to NBWC) are composed, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, of TRAPPERS, hunters and anglers, and they almost ALWAYS vote together. All these bodies are a joke. Trapping does NOT slow or impede diseases in any way. The bobcat, fox, mountain lion and coyote feast on the chipmunks and mice that carry the diseases. Still, trappers claim to be doing a service to the public. Right. Leghold traps should be banned. Trappers are arrogant and believe that anyone who does not agree them is non-American. Being out in wholesome nature is not the same thing as what trappers really do, but they don't want you to know that part. SJR7 should be soundly rejected by this committee. Mar-05-2013

For I Michael D.Gowan support SJR7.I believe that all people should have the right to hunt, fish, and trap.If you ask most people they would say they thought it was a right.first of all I am a Hunter,Fisherman,Trapper, and a Professional guide for all of these activities.I make 100% of my income through these activities.God gave us dominion over the animals to use them responsibly for our needs. The ability to go in the field and harvest game to feed and cloth our families has existed since the beginning of time.My family consumes mostly wild meat still to this day.It is more healthly. The simple act of taking game through these activities brings us closer together and connects us to the land and our creator.God intended this from the beginning. For my children to learn the value of life through the experience of hunting and taking life has kept them grounded and respectful. Many problems in our society can be related to a disconnection from the land and what it really takes to sustain us.Rural Nevadans need these freedoms secured as they are part of our daily lives. They ensure our abilities to sustain ourselves.Trapping allows farmers and ranchers to control problem animals.Trapping also allows rural people a way to supplement thier incomes through fur sales.Fur is no different than the leather we all wear.It has the same origin. It is the skin of an animal. Many urban people do not understand our way of life as they live much differently.Rural people are increasingly outnumbered in voting situations as population in cities has greatly overtaken the rural population. This creates an negative environment for rural needs allowing urban areas to dictate rural lifestyle.I urge you to support SJR7. For My name is Mike Pergola and I am Native Las Vegan of 45 years. Being raised in Las Vegas there was not much to do beyond sports and school. My father started taking me hunting and fishing at a very early age and they were by far the best years of my life. I feel it is our right to not only bear arms but to hunt and fish our land here in Nevada. Dating back 100 years ago, many people would hunt and fish just to live. In today's economic times it is no different. Every fish I catch is eaten and every bird I ever shot was eaten, taking game from our land and our waters is American tradition and way of living and should not be considered a privilege but a right. Thank you for your time and please contact me if you should need anything more. Mar-04-2013
For We as Sportsman should always have a seat at the table. This bill supports making it a right to hunt trap and fish in the state of Nevada. It has nothing to do with regulations, quotas or such. Its a protection act to protect the sporting families of Nevada so that they can't easily be pushed to the side lines. Currently the opportunity to experience the outdoors can be legislated away or just greatly reduced depending on which way the political wind is blowing. This bill is for our children and their children as we currently enjoy the outdoors. You say its absurd to think it can be taken away....look no further than our neighbor to our west...try sportfishing between San Francisco and Santa Barbara.Nevada is deep in outdoor heritage from a 2000 year old canvas back duck decoy being found and a statue of a great trapper "Kit Carson" on display in our capital. Homesteaders who first came to this state started out by hunting, trapping and fishing. Although the manner in which these activites have changed with technology...the core pursuit is still the same. The heritage is engrained so deep in Nevada that a key legislation bears the name of a Nevada Senator. Mr Key Pittman was a co sponsor of the 1937 wildlife act known as the Pittman-Robertson act where monies are collected and used to enhance wildlife and it sustainability for many years to come. Nevada and its sportsmen have proven themselves to be champions of responsible hunting, fishing and trapping through numerous conservation programs that respect our land and wildlife. Preserving this right will help our state maintain a healthy balance of predatory and non-predatory species and preserve some of the richest, most diverse ecosystems in the nation. If a monetary justification is needed, consider that men and women spent nearly half a billion dollars on hunting and fishing in Nevada during 2011. For This resolution is important to the sportsmen and women of the state, hunters, fishermen and trappers have spent many thousands of volunteer hours working with NDOW in managing and developin our wildlife resource, they have paid millions of dollars in user fees and millions more in donations to support our states wildlife. For the most part those who would take away our traditions are those that have never given anything to our wildlife. There are those that say wildlife should only be viewed or photographed. With out sportsmen working to bring back the range and woodlands after fire and draught and their work to repoplute our lands with abundant wildlife, there would be much less to watch and much less to photograph. Bighorn sheep, antelope, elk and deer populations, just to name a few, are there because of sportsmen. Please support this bill so that the wildlife of Nevada will continue to have sportsmen stewards into the future, just as wildlife has had sportsmen stewards in the past. For I support this bill for several reasons. First, why should we restrict a long standing tradition and history of hunting and fishing in this state? And what about wildlife management? I am going to guess that you do not have a single person in the Division of Wildlife that would oppose this bill and wishes to take on the management of wildlife resources without the help of hunters and fishers to help keep the balance. Second, I know that NON-NV parties are pushing and attempting to influence those in the state that do not participate in these sports and it irks me. I would love nothing more than to give outsiders the boot with respect to any influence they try to gain in this state. Lastly, I ask those non-hunters and non-fishers if they would like any of us to find their passion and regulate its existence? I mean, one can argue that GOLF is an environmentally hazardous sport that blatantly wastes water and allows fertilizers to seep back into water tables thus causing permanent harm to the environment. It is also outside of scope of highest and best use of land in most city or metro areas where housing is short and a golf course would make a nice condo setting. Of course, I would never dream of regulating out someone's opportunity to golf but I am making a statement as to how allowing any one group to dictate another group's form of recreation is a slippery slope of legal battles and unfairness all around. Please vote FOR SJR7 and help keep Nevada's hunting and fishing heritage alive! Thanks for listening! Brian Feb-26-2013

Don't let the swan song of the left wing whackadoodles prevail. They only "mean well" and accomplish nothing for wild animals.
