Against Vote NO on SB163. Now is not the time to spend $20 million on pre-kindergarten programs in our schools. The Federal Government’s pre-school program, Head Start, has proven to be a failure in helping children and an enormous waste of money. Taxpayers are tired of throwing money at problems without real results May-15-2013

Against Bills like this make us slaves to the central government. May-15-2013
Against Too much cost, not enough reward. In fact, no reward at all for the students. Please oppose AB 163. May-14-2013

Against ABSOLUTELY NO, STAY OUR OF OUR NURSERIES AND LEAVE THE CHILDREN ALONE TO BE NURTURED BY THEIR PARENTS, NOT BRAINWASHED AGAINST THEIR OWN COUNTRY.! May-13-2013

Against $20,000,000 for PRE-K? Absolutely not. All this amounts to is subsidized day-care. Ideally, these toddlers would be safe at home. I know that some in this country believe children belong to everybody. They want to get them out of their homes, away from their parents, and start indoctrinating them early. This is a ridiculous waste of money. Apr-11-2013
Against Keep the current law as is. Let the mother decide when her child is mature enough for school. Do not mess with home-schoolers. Why does government need to finance pre-school “education”? AB163 and SB182 are just schemes to run day care at government expense. Apr-10-2013

For Prekindergarten is an excellent program for any and all children whose birthdays fall between May 1 and Sept 30. I had the chance to put both my boys in the preK program and the benifit was a resounding success. One graduated from HS with 2 honors diplomas and the other still excells in middle school. I suggest that all schools would greatly benefit from this program, not just Title I schools. All taxpayers pay for schools therefore all children should be eligible for this program. Apr-10-2013

For Let's give our children the best possible chance to be successful. Apr-07-2013
For I am for the bill because my cousin had a hard time in kindergarten and had to redo the grade because she couldn't learn english well. This bill would help to have early educational programs. Apr-03-2013

Against This is coming from the FEDS... Nevada wants money, President Obama's "Race to the Top" (that replaced Bush's awful No Child Left Behind) program says to the states... you want many, YOU MUST adopt Early Childhood/Prekindergarten programs. You can thank former Governor Gibbons for signing on to "Common Core Standards" and to Governor Sandoval for sticking with it. States across the country are reconsidering their original agreements and dropping out of the CCS madness. Nevada needs to the same. STAND UP Legislators and say NO to "free" money. Education should be managed at the local level... not by the Feds and not by the state. Vote no on AB163. Mar-25-2013
Against Mar-24-2013
Against Please vote no on this bill. We do not need to give the teachers (union) more time to brainwash our children with their socialist views. Mar-19-2013

For Yes!!! Mar-09-2013
Against Mar-08-2013
Against For the same reasons SB182 should not be passed. The children already spend too much time receiving care from the public school system. This action benefits lazy, irresponsible parents and creates new jobs for teachers. Mar-08-2013
Against Studies done have not proved sufficiently that pre-K programs have any long term positive effects. At this age the children benefit more from time being in a nurturing enviroment. Unfortunately these programs are implemented with the idea that learning to read or compute mathematically at an earlier age is some how beneficial in the long term. But studies have proved that this is not so. Children need more time to be children in an open non-structured environment to enable their brains to develop so that they may learn academic skills more easily later. Mar-08-2013
Against My child went to early childhood programs as I had been told it would be a great boast to his education. We did it all - the early schooling the early reading and all the MUST DO educational products. It has actually done the opposite - by Middle School he was BURNED OUT from learning and just is no longer interested. Let kids be kids and go to school when they are ready - age 7 would be best. Against This "distribution of money" means one thing. The money must be cut elsewhere, or more taxes. The margin "business"tax is such a sham. Some day you high and mighty "I know more than you cause you voted for me" polititions wil figure out that business doesn't pay taxes, they collect taxes. I pay the tax because it it passed on to me. Mar-04-2013
Against No, No, No, No. Mar-04-2013
Against Again, another transfer to the state to raise our children. All-day kindergarten is state sponsored child care. I urge you to vote against this bill. As an educator, I have personally witnessed the extravagant misuse and waste of public funds in the education. This is just one more example. There is no absolute proof of the benefits of this program. Mar-03-2013
Against Mar-03-2013
Against All day K is the newest grade to be added to school. K used to be the "get ready for school time" transition between home life and "grade school", now its working on being just another grade. We do not need the State planning to start with School District run Preschools in Title 1 schools. Next will be preschool programs at all schools, then mandatory school attendance for 3 & 4 year olds. Starting it in the Title 1 schools sends a message to the low income people of our state that they are not deemed competent to parent their children for school readiness so here is a "FREE" gov program to do it for you. The fact that the school district is involved is probably against our State Constitution. Mar-02-2013

Against Vote NO on AB163. We do not want or need to spend $20 million on failed pre-kindergarten programs. The Federal Government’s pre-school program, Head Start, has proven to be a failure in helping children and an enormous waste of money. See research results at: http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/opedcolumnists/head_start_tragic_waste_of_money_L7V5dJC333RDC8QT8UEWaO. For To build a STRONG FOUNDATION for NV we must start to invest in our students. That investment starts in pre-k. Feb-25-2013
Against I am a mother of two boys, both now adults, two grandchildren (one of which is in the school system now) and great grandmother of one great grandson who turned 1 year old yesterday. While my boys were preschool I stayed home to raise them, going back to work after they were both in school and I had spent 5 years volunteering in their school. Children NEED the care, attention and love of their parents until they are old enough to be part of a group of all-day students. This idea of putting babies, toddlers and 4 and 5 year olds in all day school is nothing more than paid for baby setting. We the tax payers are already paying millions for the parents with children so they can care for them. What happens to all those welfare dollars? I can bet non of those parents would be in favor of this bill if the money they are receiving were debited from their checks. I am against this and ask you all to vote against this. Feb-25-2013
Against No! Head Start has been an abject failure. Quit messing around with education and fix the problem. Simple! Outlaw public employee unions - especially the teacher's union. Ask any superintendent. The union (and LIFO - last hired, first fired) prevents then from keeping the good teachers and firing the bad. Wake Up! Feb-25-2013
Against Effort should be spent to keep kids in school later, and to fund more math and science classes. We do not need, nor can Nevadans afford, to add a new program whose benefits are questionable at best. Feb-25-2013
Against Feb-25-2013
Against Why throw money away on headstart programs that don't work. Feb-25-2013
Against Feb-25-2013
Against Not beneficial per studies, especially for boys. We do NOT have money for this, I object to higher taxes. Another teachers' union power grab at the expense of our kids. NO! Poor public schools made it necessary for me to pay for private school on top of taxes for public schools. Feb-25-2013
Against Feb-25-2013
Against It is time to tighten our belts! Mothers can take care of small children just like they did before WWII. As a home economist, substitute teacher, and a grandmother to 12 children, I consider myself an "expert" informant. I welcome any legislator who wishes to discuss this socialistic idea. Call 775-867-2639. Feb-24-2013
Against Please do your due diligence, research other states that have offered preschool, longterm (Oklahoma, etc) and the lack of results. Please stop wasting money. Please choose to invest more in FAMILIES instead of a system. Feb-24-2013
Against You continue to spend money on FAILED programs plus new ones. Cancel failed programs and then use the money for programs that have proven to succeed. Head start has been proven to fail, this is another program which is fails to address the problems. Use the money to institute real vouchers which have proven to succeed with all students. Feb-24-2013
Against No state legislation is necessary. Let the school districts offer this on a fee basis. Determine if there is any demand. Why can't private nurseries provide this service ? Feb-24-2013
Against Why would anyone in their right mind continue programs that have proven to have no long term benefits? Surely in these austere times we need JOBS not more broken programs that don't work! Feb-24-2013
Against Government Head Start programs have been proven to be a miserable failure. Why would you waste money on basically the same thing and expect a different result? Feb-24-2013
