Against May-06-2013
For Apr-15-2013
Against This is not safe for night driving, pack traveling, flat tires, ice/oil on the road, rain, high winds, driver failure, vehicle failure, road debris ect. This won't keep anyone safe. 55 does save lives. Apr-09-2013
For Modern autos are much safer and fuel efficient at higher speeds...re:better brakes, handling, tires, headlights, etc. Nevada's roads are better than in nearly all other states as well. Vaste distances here almost make a higher limit mandatory to help stave off sleepiness as well. Shorter, faster trips are much less tiring. Apr-08-2013
For Please pass this. It is long overdue. Infact can we have a wasting fuel NRS like in the old days that doesn't affect your driving record? Seriously, some areas NHP just writes speeding tickets for the finacial benefit of the local community, which has nothing to do with safety. Apr-07-2013
For Cull the herd. Apr-06-2013
Against Would you want you teenage child or grandchild to drive at 85 MPH. The big question, will this raised speed limit affect the rates insurance companies make for different states. Will my insurance increase, and will one of my grand children lose their lives to high speed. I strongly disagree with this bill. We need to lower speeds, as an example I-80 and US-395 / I-580 thru Reno was found to be safer during the construction periods in the last few years, when the speed was reduced to 55 MPH. Speed kills and increasing the speed will not save a life. Period. Mr. Gustavason does not have my support and is a silly proposal that will lead to more deaths. Apr-04-2013
For Apr-04-2013
For I strongly support this bill. The speed limit needs to be increased. If anything, there should not be a statutory maximum speed limit on the highways. If the persons in charge of designing a roadway believe it is safe to go faster than 75 on the roadway, they should be allowed to set the limit at a higher speed. 75 can seem very slow on a lot of the long, wide, and straight highway spans, especially when the road is very empty! Against Not necessary! Traveling at such a speed is dangerous; many people cannot make a decision fast enough to get them out of a predicament at this speed. This speed wastes fuel. And when 85 is permitted, people will cruise at 90 or 95. Where are your senses? What's the purpose of this? Some truckdriving sponsor wants it? Apr-04-2013
For Apr-03-2013
For The statutory maximum speed limit should be a speed at which it is NEVER safe to drive, on ANY Nevada highway. It is quite safe to drive on many Nevada highways in excess of 75 mph, as evidence by thousands of drivers every day who do so, and therefore the maximum speed limit should be increased. NDOT's professional engineers should be trusted to evaluate highways and recommend the speeds that are appropriate. Apr-03-2013
Against I emailed my Senator, Senator David Parks, opposing this bill but I want to make sure my opposition is heard. This is a dangerous and ridiculous bill by Senator Gustavson. I can tell he's not very interested in the economic problems of this state, for him to worry about raising the speed limit in Nevada which is plenty fast already, especially on I-15, which I doubt he's ever driven on. I-15 doesn't need a higher speed, and there are already plenty of people who exceed the present speed limit of 75, many of which would still exceed a speed limit of 85. I don't care what the speed limit of Texas or any other state is, 75 is more than fast enough in any state, plus Nevada has a high number of drunk or drug intoxicated drivers at any given time. The money is not there to raise the speed limit. Please quickly defeat this dangerous bill and get back to the important economic, education, and other issues that need to take high priority, even if they won't with Senator Gustavson. Daniel Adams 5050 Tamarus St. #245 Las Vegas, NV 89119 Apr-02-2013
For We really need to get on board with increasing our speed limits. Contrary to the propaganda, safety typically increases with higher speeds because drivers are less bored and more focused on their actions. Automobiles have long had better transmissions to make them efficient at higher speeds and congestion will be reduced. Statistics show that virtually all drivers drive at a speed comfortable for them and instead of people watching the speedometer, with less annoying limits there will be more attention paid to the road. We should go more than 85 to be honest. Apr-02-2013
For I am all for increasing the speed limit. In my younger years growing up in Nevada there were no speed limits, then the Federal Government felt it had step in and punish states that did not do what they told them. I have had it with the Federal Government overstepping its authority. STATES RIGHTS Mar-17-2013

For I personally don't like driving that fast, but think it should be an option on the rural highway provided I can't be cited for driving too slow. Mar-13-2013

For I support increasing the maximum speed when safe to do so. (i.e. long straight stretches of road) Nevada is a large state made up of close knit communities. It is not uncommon for people to commute hundreds of miles for a days work and to visit families. I believe the speed increase will make these trips more efficient. Mar-05-2013

For As anyone who spends any amount of time in rural Nevada or traveling I-15 realizes, people are ALREADY driving at these speeds. The ones who are dangerous on the road are those who insist on driving at lower speeds, far below the flow of traffic, in the fast lane. Modern vehicles handle very well at these higher speeds. So much so, that often one does not even realize that they are already at the speed of traffic (80-85 MPH) because it feels so natural and is the "safe" speed matching all the other surrounding drivers. Those drivers who said "they wouldn't stand a chance" at the higher speeds, there is the right lane if they don't feel like they can manage their vehicles at those speeds. Clearly, everyone else feels safe because they are already moving that fast. Legitimizing what is already being safely done is incredibly smart on the part of the legislature. Law enforcement can then focus on reckless and impaired drivers and other dangers without having to worry about ticketing for speeds that even THEY consistently drive at. Feb-27-2013

For This is a great bill! The legitimization with respect to statute of speeds up to and including 85 mph, where appropriate based on engineering and safety studies, makes all the sense in the world. These speeds are well within what is feasible, on both a technical and social basis. Indeed, they are being realized countless times daily, without incident. The evidence from Utah and Texas, with 80 and 85 mph maximum speed limits, respectively, abundantly proves this. Thank you, Senator Gustavson, et al.! Feb-26-2013
For Its about time, modern cars can drive faster speeds more safely these days. Studies have revealed that higher speeds on highways do not increase accidents. There are a lot of open, boring highways in this state increasing the speed limit would be great. Feb-26-2013
For Very much in favor of this bill being passed! Feb-26-2013
For Feb-26-2013
Against Our roads are scarey enough, please don't raise speed limits especially not 80-85mph like I just heard on the news. My God, we wouldn't stand a chance out there. Feb-25-2013
For If anything, the arbitrary speed limit should be removed from law and let NDOT determine safe speeds entirely without political hurdles the legislature places in NRS! This bill doesn't go far enough, just remove the dang speed limit from law and let NDOT make determinations! Feb-25-2013
Against This is a first, but I have to disagree with you on this one. If you set 80 as the limit, they'll drive at 90. If you noticed, in Utah "areas were selected because they are away from populated areas, without many curves or mountains". This is very specific and I can't believe such statistics would hold up in other than specific straight, flat conditions. And I can't trust a DOT that allows the poor construction zone signage our's does to choose specific highway sections for such high speeds. Besides, the average driver out there is not capable of handling unusual circumstances at such high speeds, let alone the danger created for drivers that want to travel at a sane speed. Feb-25-2013
For Vote YES! Feb-25-2013
For This will actually improve safety. What's not to like? Feb-25-2013
For Speed limits should be set by engineering studies and not arbitrary (and always low) limits. Feb-25-2013
For Ask NDOT to increase the speed on the new freeway between Reno and Carson City! We go through the valley at 70MPH, then it drops to 65 on the best and widest part. If you have any leverage with NDOT, please have them increase it here!!! Great Bill! Feb-25-2013
