ACCELERATED MATH (MATH RENAISSANCE AND STAR MATH)† (AM)

(Grades 1-12)

 

A computerized math management program; Accelerated Math is designed to help educators motivate and monitor daily math practice by providing precise, reliable information on student and class math progress.† With Accelerated Math, educators can automatically generate and score assignments, identify areas requiring immediate intervention, and individualize instruction to ensure success for every student.†

 

ACCELERATED READER (READING RENAISSANCE AND STAR READING) (AR)

(Grades K-12)

 

A computerized reading management program; Accelerated Reader is designed to help educators motivate student reading practice, diagnose and intervene effectively with at-risk students, reduce paperwork, and help every child become a successful reader.† When combine with Reading Renaissance teaching strategies, Accelerated Reader helps educators lead student to gain in reading achievement.†

 

BRAINCHILD (BC)

(Grades 1-12)

 

Brainchild is a portable learning computer that may be used for extended learning; take home programs; and raising standardized test scores in the subjects of reading, math and science.† Over 160 software cartridges teach all core academic skills in a multiple-choice format.† The program is also available in MAC and PC software, and can be use in either single user or in networked environments.

 

BRIDGES (BR)

(Grades K-12)

 

Bridges is the implementation of the Structure of Intellect (SOI) Model.† †The program builds attention, memory, and other learning abilities essential to better reading, spelling, mathematics, and other basic skills.

 

CALIFORNIA EARLY AND EXTENDED LITERACY LEARNING (CELL/ExLL)

(Grades K-6)

 

The CELL/ExLL model is an extension of the Reading Recovery model for all children in grades K-6.† The CELL/ExLL model provides professional development designed to help teachers strengthen their teaching of reading and writing.† Framework of instructional activities includes oral language, phonics, higher-order thinking skills, and reading and writing activities.† The CELL component of the program covers Kindergarten through Grade 3 and the ExLL component covers Grades 3-6.

 

 

COMPASS LEARNING (CL)

(Grades K-12)

 

Compass Learning utilizes educational technology along with professional development and a strong curriculum to teach the basics, higher-order thinking, and problem-solving in reading, mathematics and writing.†

NCS Learnís SuccessMaker software offers over 3,000 hours of interactive learning in reading, language arts, mathematics, science, ESL/bilingual programs, and life-skills development for students.†

 

CORE KNOWLEDGE (CK)

(Grades K-8)

 

Core Knowledge is a complete K-8 curriculum that is content, rather than concept based.† The program relies heavily on literature and specifies phonics instruction in grades K-3.

 

DIRECT INSTRUCTION (DI)

(Grades K-12)

 

Direct Instruction is primarily an elementary school program, but may also be used successfully with secondary and adult special education and remedial students.† It is a highly structured instruction approach, designed to accelerate the learning of at-risk students.

 

EVERYDAY MATHEMATICS (EM)

(Grades K-6)

 

Everyday Mathematics is an enriched mathematics curriculum for grades K-6 that was researched and developed by the University of Chicago School Mathematics Project.† It encourages teachers and students to go beyond arithmetic - to explore more of the mathematics spectrum by investigating, gathering and analyzing data; probability; geometry; patterns; and algebra.

 

FAST FORWORD (FF)

(Grades K-12)

 

Fast ForWord is a patented Internet and CD-ROM based training program for individuals with language and reading problems.† The program rapidly builds oral language comprehension skills such as phonemic awareness, auditory processing speed, phonological awareness, working memory, syntax, grammar, sequencing and other critical skills necessary to learn to read or to become a better reader.

 

 

FULL OPTION SCIENCE SYSTEM (FOSS)

(Grades K-8)

 

FOSS for elementary school is a carefully planned, flexible and modular approach to science instruction and assessment for students in grades K-6.† Its modular design provides versatility so that it can be used in many different school settings.

 

FOSS for middle school is a general science curriculum for students and their teachers in grades 6-8. The curriculum is organized into topical courses that require 9 to 12 weeks to teach.† Three courses are offered under each of three strands:† Earth and Space Science; Life Science; and Physical Science and Technology.†

 

HELP ONE STUDENT TO SUCCEED (HOST)

(Grades K-12)

 

HOSTS is an intensive academic intervention, managed and supported by technology and delivered one-to-one by trained volunteers.† The program targets compensatory students who need assistance in reading, writing, mathematics, thinking, and study skills.†

 

IMAGE-MAKING WITHIN THE WRITING PROCESS (IM)

(Grades K-12)

 

Image-Making within the Writing Process promotes literacy skills in elementary school-aged children through the integration of visual imagery throughout their writing process.

 

LEXIA LEARNING SYSTEMS (LL)

(Grades K-12)

 

Lexiaís reading skills development programs work by teaching the phonics elements of words and the relationship between these sounds and the groups of letters that represent them.† Lexiaís phonic-based interactive reading programs are designed to facilitate the acquisition of decoding skills and to lay the foundation for the development of more advanced comprehension, fluency and critical analysis skills for readers of all ages.†††

 

LIGHTSPAN (LS)

(Grades K-6)

 

Lightspan was created to provide interactive educational programming to schools and homes using PCs, digital video multiplayers, and World Wide Web technologies.† Lightspan=s programming uniquely combines a comprehensive curriculum with the motivational power of characters, stories, and interactivity for grades K-6.†

 

MATHWINGS (MW)

(Grades 1-5)

 

As a component of Success for All=s Roots and Wings program, MathWings is designed to teach mathematics by actively involving students (grades 3-5) in the conceptual development and practical application of their mathematical skills to prepare them for mathematics in the 21st century.

 

 

NovaNET (NN)

(Grades 6-12)

 

NCS Learnís NovaNET is a computer-based learning system that provides learners and teachers with access to almost 10,000 hours of self-paced instruction in more than 150 subject areas.† Curriculum offerings include: reading, math, language arts and spelling for students in grades 6-12.

 

READ 180 (R180)

(Grades 4-12)

 

Read 180 is a research-based, comprehensive reading intervention program designed to raise reading levels and test scores of struggling readers in grades 4 through 12.† The program engages students in the reading process by helping them to build effective mental models through motivating video topics delivered on CD-ROM.† The videos provide the background knowledge that struggling readers often lack.† Succeeding reading passages directly relate to the video segments and precede systematic instruction in word recognition, phonics, and comprehension of text passages.

 

READING COUNTS (RC)

(Grades 1-12)

 

Reading Counts is a computerized reading management program, similar to the Accelerated Reader program.† The program is designed to help educators motivate student-reading practice, diagnose and intervene effectively with at-risk students.†

READING RECOVERY (RR)

(Grade 1)

 

Reading Recovery is a supplementary, one-to-one intervention program for the least able readers in the first grade.† The program is design to help pupils acquire and use fundamental reading and comprehension skills.† This program is often utilized in conjunction with the CELL/ExLL program.

 

READ RIGHT (RR2)

(Grades K-12)

 

Read Right is a comprehensive tutoring program designed to eliminate reading problems by inducing the studentís brain to remodel the neural-network that is inappropriately directing the process of reading (i.e., causing the reading problem).† On average, there is a one grade level advancement for every 13 hours for high school students, 18 hours for middle school students, and 42 hours for elementary students.†

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

READ XL (RXL)

(Grades 6-8)

 

Read XL is a reading improvement program for middle school students who are reading one to three years below grade level.† Read XL lesson plans provide direct instruction in comprehension, vocabulary, writing, research, and study skills.† Through modeling, graphic organizers, re-teaching, and additional practice, this instructional approach is designed to build skill mastery.† Read XL was developed as a more intensive remediation program to Read 180.

SAXON MATH (SM)

(Grades K-12)

 

Saxon Math was developed with the understanding that the most effective way to teach mathematics to students in grades K-12 is to use gentle repetition extended over a considerable period of time.†

 

SAXON PHONICS (SP)

(Grades K-2)

 

Saxon Phonics enables most students in grades K-2 to develop a solid foundation in phonics and thus become successful readers.† In keeping with the Saxon philosophy, the phonics series builds on prior learning.

 

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (ST)

(Grades 1-8)

 

Science and Technology is a complete science program, filled with innovative hands-on activities designed to motivate students.† The program can serve as an entire science curriculum or individual units may be incorporated into existing curriculum.† The modular design of the program makes it easy for a school to implement gradually over time.††

 

SOAR TO SUCCESS (SS)

(Grades 3-8)

 

Soar to Success is a research-based reading intervention program for students in grades 3 and above who are reading significantly below grade level.† It is a small-group model that uses authentic literature, reciprocal teaching, and graphic organizers in fast-paced lessons to help intermediate students accelerate their reading growth.

 

SUCCESS FOR ALL/ROOTS AND WINGS (SFA)

(Grades K-6)

 

Success for All provides schools with innovative curricula and instructional methods in reading, writing, and language arts from kindergarten through grade 6 and includes extensive professional development.† The curriculum emphasizes a balance between phonics and meaning in beginning reading and extensive use of cooperative learning throughout the grades.

 

THINKING MAPS (TM)

(Grades Pre-K-12)

 

Thinking maps are visual tools that help students organize their thoughts.† The Thinking Maps program is a school-wide program that utilizes eight thinking maps that are a structured set of graphic organizers based on fundamental thinking processes.† The flexible array of maps is introduced directly to students so that they will independently transfer thinking skills to content learning across disciplines.† The outcome is that a school utilizes a core set of graphic tools for cognitive development, instruction, and assessment.

 

VOYAGER EXPANDED LEARNING PROGRAM (VELP)

(Grades K-8)

 

Voyager is a national education initiative created and managed by many of the nation=s top public school educators.† Voyager provides a variety of after-school, summer, intersession, and in-school programs for children.†

 

 

WATERFORD EARLY READING (WER)

(Grades K-6)

 

A computer-based reading program designed to enable students to become successful readers regardless of their beginning level of literacy or primary language.† The research-based software adapts to each childís learning pace, thus meeting each studentís individual needs.† A personalized approach, combined with engaging activities, motivates children to concentrate and leads them to become self-confident and successful readers.† This program includes books, videotapes and audiocassettes for each child to keep.

 

WIGGLEWORKS (WW)

(Grades K-2)

 

WiggleWorks is an interactive print and CD-ROM curriculum that uses the principles of universal design Ė alternative representation of information, multiple options for expression and control, and multiple options for engagement Ė to provide a flexible, supportive, customizable reading environment for all young students.† WiggleWorks allows pupils to read, write, speak and record themselves reading.† In addition, it allows them to create, print, and bring home books.† The curriculum also provides a variety of resources for teachers, including audiocassettes and lesson plans.†
