2009-2013 Session – Legislative history documents
A legislative history includes the following documents: bill history page; bill reprints and amendments; minutes and exhibits from committee hearings; floor votes and bill actions as noted in the Assembly and Senate Journals. All materials, with the exception of some large exhibits, are available through the website for 2009-current legislation.
The bill history page tracks the bill chronologically through the legislative process and links to committee hearings, bills and amendments, Journal pages, and floor votes. To find the bill history page for a particular piece of legislation, use the bill history search: 2009, 2011, 2013. Choose the type of legislation -- Senate Bill, Assembly Concurrent Resolution, etc. -- and enter the bill number.
Using the bill history page as the guide, assemble in chronological order the bill prints, committee minutes and Journal entries.
Exhibits referred to in 2009-current committee minutes were scanned and made available electronically; however, not all exhibits are complete, some due to length, some due to format. Request exhibits from the Research Library, 775-684-6827 or by email. When requesting exhibits, cite house, committee, hearing date, exhibit letter, and bill number.
To view the Assembly or Senate Journal pages for floor actions, click on the dates from the bill history page (under the heading "Bill History"). This will open a new window with links to the Assembly Journal and Senate Journal for the chosen date. Open the Assembly or Senate Journal as needed. Use the browser's Edit/Find feature and enter the bill number.
For a detailed explanation of researching legislative history utilizing print materials and online resources, see the Legislative History Tutorial.
