Assembly Concurrent RESOLUTION—Urging the Department of Transportation to place the construction of State Route 567 and the connecting Interstate 80 Interchange on the Department’s report of projects for construction and maintenance of highways.

1-1    Whereas, Many rural counties in Nevada currently suffer from a

1-2  decline in existing tax revenue, resulting in poorly maintained roads,

1-3  antiquated water systems, and underfunded schools and police and fire

1-4  departments; and

1-5    Whereas, The horizon, nevertheless, looks bright for two Nevada

1-6  counties because a new project promises many benefits and opportunities;

1-7  and

1-8    Whereas, The Tahoe-Reno Industrial Park is a large industrial and

1-9  business development under construction in Storey and Lyon counties; and

1-10    Whereas, The Tahoe-Reno Industrial Park will generate millions of

1-11  dollars in new tax revenue per year for Storey County and the State of

1-12  Nevada, and will employ thousands of workers thereby benefiting the

1-13  overall economy of the state; and

1-14    Whereas, A power generation plant currently being constructed at the

1-15  Tahoe-Reno Industrial Park will provide a new power resource for Nevada;

1-16  and

1-17    Whereas, The Tahoe-Reno Industrial Park is working with The Nature

1-18  Conservancy to develop a 400-acre, 5-mile long nature preserve on the

1-19  McCarran Ranch property which currently provides habitat for many

1-20  wildlife species and over 125 bird species, thereby enabling The Nature

1-21  Conservancy to restore the area to its full ecological potential; and

2-1    Whereas, Highway access to the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Park is vital to

2-2  the success of the project to ensure the safe commute of employees and the

2-3  efficient transportation of goods and services; and

2-4    Whereas, The proposed State Route 567 will reduce travel time, thus

2-5  expanding the number of communities whose residents will benefit from

2-6  the jobs available at the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Park; and

2-7    Whereas, The proposed State Route 567 will make Northern Nevada

2-8  more attractive to technology, manufacturing and distribution industries

2-9  that rely on quick, affordable shipment of goods and services to be

2-10  competitive and successful in their industries; and

2-11    Whereas, The developers of the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Park are

2-12  working with the Department of Transportation to develop the Interstate 80

2-13  Interchange and State Route 567 that will connect Interstate 80 and

2-14  Highway 50 and they are willing to donate the right of way for the

2-15  construction of State Route 567; and

2-16    Whereas, The construction of the Interstate 80 Interchange and State

2-17  Route 567 are essential to the success of the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Park;

2-18  now, therefore, be it

2-19    Resolved by the Assembly of the State of Nevada, the Senate

2-20  Concurring, That the Nevada Legislature hereby urges the Department

2-21  of Transportation to recognize the import of the Tahoe-Reno Industrial

2-22  Park and place the construction of the Interstate 80 Interchange and State

2-23  Route 567 on the Department’s report of proposed projects for the

2-24  construction and maintenance of highways prepared pursuant to NRS

2-25  408.319; and be it further

2-26    Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly prepare and transmit

2-27  a copy of this resolution to the Director of the Department of

2-28  Transportation.
