SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION--Proposing to amend the constitution of the State of Nevada to provide that the state controller is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the state treasurer. RESOLVED BY THE SENATE AND ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, JOINTLY, That section 19 of article 5 of the constitution of the State of Nevada be amended to read as follows: [Section] \Sec. \\19. \1. \\A secretary of state, a treasurer, [a controller,] and an attorney general, shall be elected at the same time and places, and in the same manner as the governor. The term of office of each shall be the same as is prescribed for the governor. Any elector shall be eligible to either of said offices.\ 2. The state treasurer shall appoint a state controller. The controller serves at the pleasure of the treasurer. The legislature may prescribe by law the qualifications and duties of the state controller. 3. The provisions of this section pertaining to the appointment and service of a state controller become effective on November 7, 2000. Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection 1, the term of office of the controller elected at the general election in 1998 expires on November 7, 2000.\\ -30-
