Session Employment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Legislative session positions and their responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nevada\u2019s legislative sessions are held during\u2002odd-numbered years. Prior to session, temporary positions are hired for the period from the beginning of January through the end of the session in May to work as nonpartisan<\/strong> support staff. These positions have many duties and responsibilities that make the work of legislators possible. The Assembly hires committee managers, committee secretaries, data information technicians, personal assistants, proofreaders, and other staff to assist with facilitating the legislative session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Committee managers<\/strong> work closely with legislators and have many important duties to assist with the successful running of committee meetings. Some of the committee managers\u2019 tasks include creating meeting agendas, gathering materials for meetings, monitoring committee meetings, posting exhibits, and scheduling with bill sponsors and presenters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Committee secretaries<\/strong> are primarily responsible for recording and taking detailed notes of committee meetings, maintaining exhibits, entering appropriate data for minute status reports, reporting committee actions to the committee manager, and drafting and finalizing minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Data information technicians <\/strong>access relevant systems to support the technical and document center needs of Assembly staff, particularly regarding committee exhibits. Other duties will be assigned including, but not limited to, processing appropriate data for bill and minute reports, supply delivery, troubleshooting hardware and software, office organization, etc. The data information technician will also be cross-trained to potentially substitute as a personal or committee assistant as needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Personal assistants <\/strong>provide clerical and administrative support to an Assembly member. Duties include greeting visitors, answering telephone calls, making travel arrangements, maintaining the Assembly member\u2019s calendar, and tracking the progress of legislative bills. The personal assistant is also responsible for researching constituent concerns; drafting letters and memoranda; generating reports; and maintaining files. Personal assistants maintain strict confidentiality and professional conduct at all times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Proofreaders<\/strong> review committee minutes for fluency, accuracy, grammar, spelling, and adherence to Assembly styles and formats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assistant<\/strong>\u00a0Sergeant at Arms<\/strong>\u00a0perform duties under the direction of the Sergeant at Arms, who is the principal law enforcement officer for the Assembly. The Sergeant at Arms staff is responsible for enforcing the Assembly\u2019s rules and the directives of the Speaker and Chief Clerk of the Assembly to ensure the legislative process in the Assembly Chamber operates without interruption.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
